NeMiss [neh-miss]chi-town native multi-faceted vocalist and emcee, highlights emblematic feminine strength steeped in hip hop culture. (ear candy here )
Classy & clever rhymes one after the next. My favorite joint is "Bombshell". She made "Stamina" without being a sleazy & sell out. "She's So Fresh" is a perfect example the caliber of talent this lady possess'. "Move the Floor" a tribute to Hip-Hop's love child, the DJ. hear them all here :)
when I heard about this, I bashed it immediately... feeling that it mocks the art of a DJ... but now I'm thinkn it's more like Voltron. My boy DJ No Request got it this week & he won't shut the funk up about it. I swear he brings it up in every convo- it's nuts.
to begin, props to my-brother-from-another-mother, DJ No Request (Jesse) for inviting me to the show. He engineers for Maxwell. Did a damn good job, album was excellent- right?
Chrisette Michelle & Common opened up & Max shut it down!! His band was on point (Hod, Latina & crew) levels rarely overlapped. AAANNND Our seats were great!!
how can u not love this jam?
I'm not really an R&B type (Al Green, Marvin Gaye & Aaliyah are my steez), but I really loved this album. Of course, Maxwell has plenty of classics... perfect "quiet storm" material. I knew it was gonna be fun b/c I was gonna chill w/my boy, Jesse- but I was floored by Maxwell's performance. The man can sing (if u didn't already know, u need to move out from under that rock u live under) & he's extra sexy & can dance! (that part, I admit, I had overlooked)
Jesse broke his ankle on the way to the Garden :/ we went to the after party anyway. had to go home after that. too much wine & talky talky w/Max. ha!!!
the only album I've been anticipating... thanks cudder. it's dope :) heart of a lion & sky might fall are clever and sincere. I'm feelin it. if you can't do what you imagine... then what's imagination to you?
Staten Island STAND UP!! ::ok, you can sit down now:: new track from Raekwon ft. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah & Method Man!!!
In my opinion, very few groups in the culture of Rap music compare, or even come close to Wu Tang's level of artistic diversity. You don't hear clever word play like this from many of the new artists that get radio play these day. Not the kinda stuff I'd play in the car with my Tia Nilda (doesn't mean that shit ain't dope tho!) get it here
My Grandma passed away from AML on 7/31/07. I can never forget certain things... especially my mothers behavior. I was raised by my Grandma for most of my life while my mother dealt with her own issues. As a result, Grammy & I had a very strong bond. So when I woke up on Friday 7/31/09, I put on a cute dress I knew she'd love (even though the forecast said it would rain). Around 5pm, Maegan (my manager) sent an email out about not being able to go to APW and did any 1 want the tix. I immediately hit her up on Instant Messenger "MEEEEEE!!!!" I was the first to reply & she can't resist my sad puppy face- so she blessed me.
I saw Jay-Z perform once before, at MSG the day after R Kelly flipped out on the Best of Both Worlds tour. Seeing him again was exciting- of course! Alex rushed over right after work and we were en route to Liberty State Park within the hour. The whole series of events was such an adventure, we didn't mind the mud so much. Vampire Weekend was finishing we finally made it to the main stage... Alex was hype about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I was still feeling a bit melancholy about Grammy & then...
the acoustic version of MAPS hit me so hard. It made me think of Grammy. I kept looking up at the beautiful sky... really feelin' it
"wait... they don't love you like I love you"
I felt so much that way about her... my eyes just kept leaking. Feeling so happy to know she watches over me even in her after life (or whatever you want to call it). I was having a moment.
What a rush- and Jay-Z was next! He took the stage in natural Hip Hop fashion, about 30 min late. Every 1 was more smushed together more than ever before. Some people were getting hostile.... finally, a 10min countdown clock came on the screen & everyone's mood changed. He began the show by covering No Sleep Til Brooklyn in obvious tribute to MCA— changing the song's "Beastie Boys at the Garden, cold kickin' it live" line to "Jay-Z, All Points West, kickin' it live". Everyone was jumping around in the centimeter of space each had- how could you not love it?
Continuing the BK theme, he went into "Brooklyn (we go hard)" and then "Hello Brooklyn" followed by more hits including: Roc Boys, H to the Izzo, Can I Live, U Don't Know, Blue Magic, Show Me What U Got, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Hard Knock Life & Big Pimpin'. He also paid tribute to Michael Jackson with an interlude recording of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back".
"If you take one thing from this concert, it should be that we don't mourn death, we celebrate life,"
Fuck yeah, I was feelin all that 100%. He performed Death of Auto tune, Run This Town and also some acapella of material off The Blueprint 3...
"Hey I appreciate y'all stayin' out in the rain or whatever, fuckin' up your new sneakers and all that shit." He closed the show by pointing out different fans in the crowd and thanking them individually. How awesome is that?
J Cole is JayZ's first artist on ROC Nation. I've heard about him but i finally had a chance to hear his work today. His music is thoughtful & creative. It's only a matter of time...
I'm proud to report my college roommate, Hans Austin, AKA Flawless, has signed with Charlie Walk! A flaw can be defined as something that is imperfect. So an MC with hot rhymes, catchy hooks and a solid flow can only be described as “Flawless”. His style is upbeat and clever. Congrats to Team Flawless!
wow... I cannot believe this happened. I'm not going to dwell on the obvious tragedy, instead I'd like to reflect on some of his great work. we all have memories associated with his music. here are some of mine :)
i think i was 3 or 4, my mom dressed me up and took me to the youth fair, made a music video of me singing to this song... thanks mom
Freshman year of high school, i was in the drum line of the marching band. We played this song about 80,000 times when we marched in the orange bowl parade. my arms hurt so bad that night, but it was a lot of fun.
My little sister, Arica LOVES this song... she knows the dance, and every word- including narration. *I know the original video is dope, but this is the only version I could find on youtube that let me embed.
do I really need to break this one down for you?
I had cable when this video came out, the video is just amazing & I really love that they made this together. sometimes life just makes you just wanna scream.
RIP Michael Jackson 1958-2009 sincerest condolences go out to his family.
after some brief convo w/Alexandra, I got ampd about this concert/fest.. we bought tickets n flights that same day! who else is going?
Depeche Mode, The Killers, Tool, Jane's Addiction, Beastie Boys, Kings of Leon, Lou Reed, Thievery Corp, Snoop Dogg, TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Santigold, Atmosphere, Cold War Kids, Lykke Li, Ida Maria & the Knux.
Being a native Miami girl, I've been discouraged from going to any beaches of NY etc advised that I will be thoroughly disappointed... BUT this weekend, Ray of Jarell Ent invited me to DJ two events w/him in the Hamptons! The 1st one was a wedding at Wolffer Estate Vineyards.
being a wino, the process interested me...
real windmill... the 2nd gig was an after party at the Maidstone Country Club. We setup on the patio area (very cold & windy that night) I stayed in my jeans instead of changing into the dress I packed, which pissed security off... They had doughnut makers & of course a full bar on the patio also. Instead of throwing rice, they used sparklers to send the bride & groom off to their honeymoon. Private bus' drove guests back to the hotel. sweeeet
Eminem is the type of artist you either love or hate. Either way, you can't deny that his lyrics are wild! He's forever spittin some grimey shit, painting a graphic scene. Black Amerika is a compilation blends of classic Em over current beats... fuego! Political sound bytes are sprinkled throughout, to support the theme of "Black Amerika". My personal favorites are 11, 13, 14 & 24 available at Blakmarket.net
